Automated Fare Gates able to scan mobile barcode tickets as fast as smartcards: This video was shot using normal tickets on a normal gate - nothing here is staged or altered to make it look faster, this is all a live production system. The tickets used were a same day return ticket from London Marylebone to Warwick Parkway and also a single ticket for the same journey. The tickets were flexible tickets that the rider could use at any time that day. The purchase was made with a credit card using the Chiltern Railways mobile ticket application approximately two minutes before we took this video going through the gates. As there is no synchronization required between purchase and gate use, the purchase could have been made right up to the moment of arriving at the gate, there is no delay required, and even works if the station or conductors are off-line to make it robust and responsive even at rush hour. The phone used was an iPhone 4. The app can be found at http://www.chilternrailways.co.uk/content/download-your-mobile-app-now (available for iPhone, Android, Nokia, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, and many feature phones) Other train company mobile ticketing applications are also available, a list of some of them is here: http://www.masabi.com/about/customer-deployments/ The gates also accept paper tickets that customers print at home that have barcodes printed on them. The station shown in the video is London Marylebone operated by Chiltern Railways, and the gates shown in the video are by Cubic Transportation Systems. Barcode capable gates can also be found at the following UK stations run by other Train Operating Companies: London Marylebone London Kings Cross London Victoria Gatwick Airport Beaconsfield Aylesbury Gerrads Cross Cambridge Kings Lynn (more stations will be barcode enabled soon making mobile tickets more widely available) Please get in touch if you want to find out more about mobile ticketing. http://www.masabi.com

Set up shot of Jungi Ogura, Japan World Cup Organising Committee (JAWOC) Director, walking into into the room 7. Cutaway of media 8. SOUNDBITE (Japanese): Jungi Ogura, JAWOC Tournament Director: "Right from the very start we decided for security reasons that selling tickets for cash at the ticketing office was to dangerous. In our first test we wanted to allocate the sale of tickets as 80 per cent through phone and 20 per cent via the internet. But even though we provided English speaking facilities we had problems dealing with foreign callers and we also found that most preferred to use the internet. Taking this into consideration we decided to split it 50 percent by telephones and 50 per cent by the internet." 9. Fans with a ticket. STORYLINE: Embarrassed by a tickets fiasco threatening the image of Asia's first World Cup, co-hosts Japan have decided to split the sale of the remaining first round tickets 50-50 between themselves and FIFA. Both Japan and Korea's governments have expressed their dismay at the problems which have led to delays in fans receiving their tickets, chaos in the online sales operation and empty seats. The sale of tickets remains a major talking point in both Japan and Korea. The distribution centre in Tokyo saw a steady stream of people coming to try to pick-up tickets. In an attempt to alleviate the problem the Japan World Cup Organising Committee (JAWOC) has decided to split the remaining first round tickets 50-50 with FIFA. JAWOC's will accept ticket reservations by phone, while FIFA will sell tickets online. But many of those still trying to get hold of seats remain skeptical that selling by phone will make any difference. On Thursday JAWOC Tournament Director Jungi Ogura tried to play down the problems. He also explained security issues were the reason why fans were unable to buy tickets over the counter.
